Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in October 1985, founded through a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries (now AstraZeneca). The goal was simple yet powerful — to educate people about breast cancer, promote early detection, and support those affected.
The pink ribbon, now recognized worldwide, became the official symbol of hope and strength in 1992, thanks to the Estée Lauder Companies and SELF Magazine. Since then, the color pink has represented unity, courage, and love — a reminder that no one fights alone.
Each October, people around the world wear pink, walk in honor of survivors, and remember those who’ve passed — keeping the message alive:
